[TRIP] One-day field trip to Hoa Binh

I'd binh been to Hoa Binh on the 4th of September for the ESS field experiment!
I interviewed local people about to what extent has dam influence their life and the standard of living for the local community and took a water sample from the reservoir and the river.
Hoa Binh is 76 km far from Hanoi, so it's nearby Hanoi.
This city (province) is very well known for its minority community but also the biggest hydroelectric dam among all in Southeast Asia!
The day I'd been to Hoa Binh was actually 'The independence day of Vietnam', so it was difficult to find interviewees.

I aimed to interview 50 people, but I could only interview approximately 30 people by the end.

Floating houses on 'Da river'...

I could see some locals fishing around here.

I asked fishers how many fishes are caught on a daily basis. They answered that compare to the time when there was no dams, the amount of fishes being caught has decreased dramatically. This can be inferred that there was an inadequate fish ladder for aquatic animals to migrate.
Fishing trap, which made to catch catfishes.

Since the day I visit Hoa Binh is an independence day, not many noises were caught by this noise meter. Compare to Hanoi (80-90 dBC on average), it was really quiet and calm.
After I finished my interview in the downtown of Hoa Binh, I moved to the reservoir region to take the water sample.
Surprisingly, the water from the lake was clean as tap water!

But consider that the size of the lake is bigger than the size of Hoa Binh city, this is a reasonable result.
Sadly, access to nature nearby the lake was resisted for the visitors and nature nearby was destroyed already so I could not even conduct a biodiversity study on local nature.

Before I went back to Hanoi, a guard allowed me to visit Tượng Đài Bác Hồ (Statue of Ho Chi Minh), which has an observation deck towards reservoir direction.
Beautiful view...
On the way back to the home, the weather got darker and rain poured immediately. The time by this was 5pm.

Coincidently, the dam opened its gate to floodwater downstream. And this was the rare event that happens once or twice in a year!

One day trip to Hoa Binh was very worthy. Besides the point that...I stepped on animal's poo, all experience that I made in here was hilarious. :D

[NORMAL DAYS IN KOREA] Review on Jamsil baseball stadium

As an avid Lotte Giants fan, I could not miss an opportunity to watch a match held in Seoul. There was a match between Lotte Giants and Doosan Bears on 23rd June. I had no hesitance to buy a ticket for that. I went to the stadium with my friend, who is a fan of the Doosan Bears. The ticket costs approximately $10.5 per person (weekday fare/The second floor and Infield seats). It was a reasonable price. This is a waiting queue to enter the baseball stadium. I could see many Lotte fans visit here to root for Lotte as I do. Basically, Jamsil Baseball Stadium is a baseball stadium located between the business area and the residential area of Seoul. Thereby Jamsil Stadium always has relatively more fans than those of any other stadiums.  Food that I ate in the stadium. Well-grilled Korean BBQ was a nice choice for me during watching a game. This is one of the remarkable rooting chants(?) ever I experienced in my life. This is basically a chant that disturbs...

[School activities] Finalizing gathering of items for the flea market&raffles

Spring carnival will be held by tomorrow! Members of the flea market team have collected all boxes(items) from Kindergarten to Grade 12. And we priced on every single item. Even today, many students/teachers and staffs hand us their items. It was a calories-burning exercise for us to collect all of the items but it was fun! Some items were brand-new or seemed very fancy. So we gathered them into another group and put them into the main office. By 21st April 2017, we will sell items in the flea market and provide items for the raffle so I want as many people to come and join the event.

[After school activities] Checking water quality of water ecosystems in Hanoi

With the Environment Club CCP group, I went to several water ecosystems in Hanoi to check the water quality and how it's related with locals' life.  The first one is 'To Lich' river. This river usually called as 'Toilet river' by foreigners who live in Hanoi.  We could easily observe that the polluted water from sewages directly flowed to the river, which is serious point pollution.  To get better result, I took 1 litre of water from the river. The smell of the river was very stinky and I could observe the air (bubble) being popped in the river. I think To Lich river is highly toxic.  The second one is Ngoc Khanh lake. It is near to my school and the civil government had huge project to clean the ecosystem of Ngoc Khanh lake. They took off all of the water in the lake and cleaned the lakebed. After the cleaning, they put lake water back. In result, this lake became so much cleaner than the past times. Our CCP also took a liter of wat...
