[URBAN PLANNING NEWS] New form of GIS, Alibaba's ET Brain (and my thoughts on it)

Two days left until the Winter Olympics finished in my home country! During my spare time, I read an article on the Olympics' official sponsors, and there was an interesting system that may greatly affect the usage of GIS in fields of urban planning and urban management. It was Alibaba's ET brain! <Image referenced from here > As Alibaba named it as a ' brain ', it literally works like a human brain . The human brain first gathers information received by sensory devices and delivers the gathers to the hippocampus.  It refers to the ET's <Data aggregation> . Secondly, the hippocampus will rehearse the received information in order to construct a stronger memory. Well just think of ' Stronger and more sophisticated hippocampus' for the step of 'Data convergence! Lastly, when the data are accumulated enough to calculate the fashion, like constructing a solid long-term memory , the 'Intelligent development...

[URBAN PLANNING NEWS] How to avoid extreme coldness or hotness? and even polluted air?

It's actually been a while to post something on my blog!!! I am actually here today to talk about alternatives to paths we are using these days. The air outside often gets dirty and extreme, as an effect of global warming. Once, I experienced heat stroke last June and had to suffer from it for a week-long! Isn't this insane?! To mitigate this crazy problem, I would like to bring up with some innovative approaches to alter our paths from the ground to the underground. Yup, as you can expect, my suggestion to the issue is 'UNDERGROUND CITY' ! <Refeenced from  http://bizn.donga.com/travel/3/all/20171109/87188097/2 > For instance, a Canadian city, Toronto has a huge underground place under the downtown that enables citizens not to be harmed by freezing weather outside during the winter. Not only it created a space for citizens to be warmed, but it also created a new form of the urban center. <Coex mall, Gangnam, Seoul - Refer...

[URBAN PLANNING NEWS] Seoul's new urban planning scheme on restricting levels of buildings

<Referenced from  http://news.sbs.co.kr/news/endPage.do?news_id=N1004502750 > After the US military base decided to move its base from Seoul to the Southern part of Gyeonggi province, the Seoul government is thinking of placing a park in that place. However, in order to make landscape much prettier, Seoul newly set a standard for a limitation on maximum levels of building nearby. As a result, Seoul may reduce the negative externality produced by the urban heat island. I am pretty sure that the skyline of Seoul would look much better in 20 years later. It's time for SEOUL to give itself an innovation!

[CITIES XL PLATINUM] New road design project and some discussions...

Such megacity like this needs huge roads to afford massive traffics. Basically, roads should be designed within the grid-lines and less cross should be built.    Therefore! I placed an urban expressway that connects with residence area and industrial (offices and factories) area. There are only three crosses that exist on the urban expressway. Before the construction of this urban expressway, there were only two approaches from residential area to industrial zone (subway and normal road). However, the construction has lead citizens to commute faster than they used to. Furthermore, some experimental road designs have been implemented in this city. INTERCHANGES WITH RAMPS! AND Still, citizens face traffic jams, but compare to those of the past...these are nothing at all๐Ÿ˜‚. but I'm still considering the alternative to the design of interchanges. Perhaps, I may reference the design from here ..? Hmm...Calgary's one s...

[TRIP] One-day field trip to Hoa Binh

I'd binh  been to Hoa Binh on the 4th of September for the ESS field experiment! I interviewed local people about to what extent has dam influence their life and the standard of living for the local community and took a water sample from the reservoir and the river. Hoa Binh is 76 km far from Hanoi, so it's nearby Hanoi. This city (province) is very well known for its minority community but also the biggest hydroelectric dam among all in Southeast Asia! The day I'd been to Hoa Binh was actually 'The independence day of Vietnam', so it was difficult to find interviewees. I aimed to interview 50 people, but I could only interview approximately 30 people by the end. Floating houses on 'Da river'... I could see some locals fishing around here. I asked fishers how many fishes are caught on a daily basis. They answered that compare to the time when there was no dams, the amount of fishes being caught has decreased dramatically...
